The owners of Ohiwai Forest Farm are passionate about removing pests, returning the bird life and restoring the forest under story and canopy. Pest control to eliminate or substantially reduce numbers of rats, possums and stoats will significantly benefit both the  fauna and flora.  HOWEVER this work costs in both time and money. To that end Ohwai Forest Farm is seeking assistance by way of donations and sponsorship to provide funding for ongoing work.
DONATIONS

Donations would be very welcome!!  The proposed automatic stoat, possum and rat traps cost around $150 each and we will need 150 to 200 of them to provide full coverage over the entire property. Labour is required to cut and maintain tracks at $25 per hour.  Bait stations start at $12 and bait from $90 per 8Kg bucket.

As an example one automatic rat trap will protect about 2500m2 of regeneration bush enabling fallen seed to germinate, Rata trees to blossom, and Tui, Fantail and Wood Pigeon chicks to fledge.

$150 equates to around 34 cups of coffee so for less than a cup of coffee per week you could help protect 2500m2 of forest.

All donations are recorded and will be shown on this site unless the donor wishes their donation to be anonymous. GST tax invoice available for all donations.

SPONSORSHIP

Help us protect this special piece of New Zealands Kauri podocarp forest by buying a rat,
possum, or stoat trap and then sponsoring it for a year.
Sponsorship enables the trap to be inspected every month, and new lure and its CO2
cartridge replaced 6 monthly. Sponsorship also allows for the upkeep of the track on
which the trap is located. $52 per annum ie. $1 per week, less than 1/4 of a cup of coffee
per year will enable the trap to be kept in good working condition and ensure its always
ready to trap the next pest.
Sponsored traps can have a digital LED counter fitted for $55 which enables a count of the number of times the trap has been activated.
Photos of what the trap has caught can be sent to a mobile phone when we inspect each trap.
NOTE - dead pests are often taken by other pests ie. a wild cat may take a dead rat from under a trap, so th counter may show a kill but nothing is under the found under the trap.
